Matisse reacted with
anger as Picasso was misbehaving
in front of the Geisha. As Picasso's
laughter became louder and harder, Matisse
could no longer tolerate Picasso's childish antics. Matisse reacted
with
a series of strong
backhands shooing Picasso away as if
he were trying to swat a fly. But
upon seeing Picasso's disarming smile, Matisse caved
in with a heartfelt grin. "I
said behave yourself," pleaded Matisse
tenderly. "Just
for once, stop acting like the dirty old
man you are." "I'm
a dirty old man?!," challenged Picasso,
trying to speak with laughter spitting
out of his mouth. "If
you're her Saint Christopher, then I'm
a Virgin."

"So tell me, why does she pose for
you in the dark?" continued Picasso. "Don't you know that
precious gems sparkle best in the light? Why I
have a good mind to bring her out from this
darkness
and into the light for all Paris to see.
Let Paris see what a precious little gem you
keep all
locked up for yourself in this cage
you call your
Master
Studio."
